Sea Sponge & Loofah Care

Quick, gentle care keeps natural sponges and loofah clean, soft, and long-lasting. Follow these simple steps after each use, with a deeper clean weekly.

After Every Use

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water until it runs clear.
  • Gently squeeze (do not wring/twist) to remove excess water.
  • Hang by the rope or place in a well-ventilated spot to air-dry completely.
  • Avoid leaving in puddles, sealed caddies, or on ledges that stay wet.

Weekly Deep Clean

  • Salt bath: 1 tsp sea salt + 1 cup warm water, soak 15–30 min; rinse and air-dry.
  • Vinegar refresh (odor): 1 part white vinegar : 2 parts water, 10–15 min; rinse and dry.
  • Do not bleach or boil (can weaken fibers).

Do & Don’t

  • ✅ Use with body wash or mild soap only.
  • ✅ Let fully dry between uses; rotate two sponges if possible.
  • ❌ No washing machines, dryers, or scalding water.
  • ❌ No harsh chemicals, especially no chlorine bleach.

Lifespan & Replacement

  • Wool (bath): typically 6–12 months with proper care.
  • Grass & Yellow (exfoliating): firmer texture; 3–6+ months depending on use.
  • Silk (face): ultra-soft; replace about every 2–4 months.
  • Loofah: 2–3 months (face) or 3–6 months (body), or sooner if fraying.

Before First Use

  • Rinse thoroughly to remove natural sea salts/fibers.
  • For compressed loofah/sponges: soak briefly in warm water to “bloom”.
  • Squeeze gently and hang to dry if not using immediately.

Troubleshooting

  • Odor or discoloration: do a vinegar refresh, then dry fully in open air.
  • Shedding bits (new sponge): normal at first; rinse a few times.
  • Feels stiff: soak in warm water 1–2 minutes to soften before use.

Drying & Storage

  • Hang in a bright, ventilated area (not in direct sun for hours).
  • Avoid closed containers or shower niches that stay damp.
  • Traveling? Let it dry first; store in a breathable bag.
